From our job files

Water gets in. Salt eats the metal. The wood rots.

A chimney chase on a South Florida roof is a wood box wrapped in stucco. When the cap rusts or the crown cracks, rain runs inside and the frame rots out of sight. These are photos from our Google Business Profile, from opening a chase up to sealing it again.

Questions

Chimney questions we hear in North Miami Beach

How often should a chimney be inspected in South Florida?

NFPA 211, the national standard for chimneys, calls for an inspection at least once a year. Our salt air, heavy rain and long humid months wear chimneys faster than in drier places, so a yearly check before the cooler months is a good habit even if you rarely light a fire.

My fireplace is rarely used. Can it still have problems?

Yes. An idle chimney in North Miami Beach stays damp, collects leaves and nests and can leak for months before anyone notices. Rust on the cap and cracks in the crown happen whether or not you burn wood.

Do you work on gas fireplaces?

Yes. Gas fireplaces vent through a flue or a chimney too, and that vent has to stay clear and sound. We inspect, clean and repair the venting of gas fireplaces as well as wood burning ones.

Are you licensed?

Yes. All About Roofs, LLC works under Florida certified general contractor license CGC1510833, which you can look up on the Florida DBPR website.

Which areas do you serve?

We are based in North Miami Beach and work in North Miami, Biscayne Park, Miami, Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles Beach, Aventura, Miami Gardens, Opa-locka, Hallandale Beach and Hollywood.
